![]() All of these perks will boost you for the given level you’re currently on, at which point they get wiped - so its worth using them. These perks range from more health, enhanced firepower, additional power-ups to things such as improved speed, and dodging. Throughout each level, as you kill off a bunch of grunts, you’re rewarded with various goodies. This momentum is upheld thanks to a generous perks system. This teleport ability does need to recharge though, so the timing of using these ‘jumps’ becomes an important aspect of how you’ll navigate though each stage to success. You can use the teleportation ability to get out of any tough spots you may find yourself in, whether that’s surrounded by one monster too many, or on the other side of a chasm you need to get across, or to pick up a power up before it disappears. In fact, your movement is key to success, and thankfully Tesla has one trick up his sleeve here to help: teleportation. You’ll need to be quick, dodging these ‘eldritch’ hordes as they come at you, wave after wave. You take control of Tesla, running around a collection of compact stages, tasked with killing everything that moves.Īs you run and gun down enemies, more will quickly spawn out of various portals dotted around the horror-themed levels. What follows is a fairly straightforward twin-stick shooter. Either way, a rivalry is ignited - the results of which are silly, strange, and rather frantic. This all seems like a bit of an overreaction to a guy wanting to bring wireless power to the world, but hey what can you do. The irate Lovecraft also manages to bring his monstrous creations to life, instructing them to take Tesla out. The motive behind this feud? Well, Lovecraft takes issue with Tesla’s plans for wireless energy (most people are skeptical of change right?) - and in what seems like a wholly unwarranted response, Lovecraft burns Tesla’s laboratory. Pitting an electrifying engineer against the many creations of a horror author makes for some interesting possibilities. This match-up isn’t particularly one that people were asking for, but it’s just about silly enough to work. It pits famed inventor Nikola Tesla up against the swarming enemies of H. Lovecraft where both disgraced in their owns times I don’t see the same thing happening to the games based on their epic battle of fact vs fiction.Tesla Vs Lovecraft is a seemingly odd pairing that started life on the PC earlier this year - and it may now have just found a more fitting home on the Nintendo Switch. It has come up with some new ideas, some excellent twin stick shooter game play and a small bit of history thrown in to seal the deal. In a world where top down shooters are plentiful and mostly generic Tesla vs Lovecraft stands out from the crowd. I’d have to say my favourite part about the audio is that the cut scenes are voiced rather than just silence which I appreciate, it would be vary easy to just subtitle it and just give you that, but they went to the time and expense of actually voicing the characters. Now onto the games audio and I have to admit that the guns sound do sound pretty good and the music is very fitting for the setting although the cries of the enemies are basic to say the least and there isn’t a great deal of variety between the monsters cries. However, it throws in a few things that make it stand out from games of the genre. ![]() Tesla vs Lovecraft shares many of the same gameplay features that most top down shooters employ with you fighting on foot, picking up items like guns, health packs and other items that will help you defeat the horde of monsters headed your way. ![]() The story culminates with on last battle which takes places at Wardenclyffe (for those who don’t know this was where Tesla did his wireless transmission experiments in New York in 1901-1902) Gameplay They had an interesting premise but never developed on that, I truly believe that if the game had gone a bit further with the story then this would have been an incredible story. After this there's not much of a story and i t’s a shame they didn’t do more with the story. Tesla isn’t going down without a fight though, he gathers his weapons and later his Tesla-mech and fights back so he can continue his experiments. Deciding that it was too dangerous to allow Tesla to keep doing his experiments Lovecraft sets his lab ablaze and sends his horrors to dispatch the scientist.
